Richard W. Swanson is the founding partner of Swanson & Heeren, P.C. He earned his undergraduate and law degrees at the University of Minnesota and has been admitted to practice in the following courts:
- Minnesota (1966)
- United State Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit (1966)
- United States Supreme Court (1969)
Mr. Swanson brings over 40 years of experience to his clients, and has been dedicated to local representation since 1973.

Personal Information
Prior to opening the law firm, Mr. Swanson worked in a twin cities firm, as an assistant state public defender in Minnesota, as the assistant dean at the University of Minnesota Law School, and as the Cook County Attorney. After taking a sabbatical with his family in a cabin he built near the Canadian border, he spent his early years in Grand Marais commuting by canoe across McFarland Lake, and hauling water and wood at a Hovland homestead.
Mr. Swanson has been a member of the North Superior Ski and Run Club since 1976 and has served on the board of directors for the Superior Hiking Trail Association since 2006. When he is not working, he enjoys cross country skiing, kayaking, hiking, camping, spending time with his grandchildren, acting and directing local theatre production, and mentoring youth in cross country ski racing.

Baiers C. Heeren is the managing partner at Swanson & Heeren, P.C. Born in Stillwater, Minnesota, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and obtained his law degree from William Mitchell College of law. He is licensed to practice in the following states:
